The Doldrums…

The first real heat wave has taken hold of Philadelphia, but does that mean it is too hot for science. YES! Of course not!
Sure, not much will be going on this month in terms of interesting exhibits and lectures, I’m afraid. So, I’m probably not going to update much until September. A fresh start.
Still, now would be the perfect time to check out the Franklin Institutes’s refurbed telescope. Sure the summer haze has turned the sky above Philly into some sort of atmospheric fun house mirror, but that doesn’t mean you can’t spend a warm summer night swatting mosquitoes and looking out over Center City.
Here’s the list from the Franky’s site. I’m assuming this all happens after dark. Just a guess.
August 9 – Jupiter, and the North American America in Cygnus
September 13 – Uranus, Andromeda galaxy, and the double cluster in Perseus
October 11 – Andromeda galaxy, Uranus, Double star in Lyra, Ring Nebula in Lyra
November 8 – The Pleiades in Taurus, Double cluster in Perseus, globular cluster in Pegasus
December 13 – 1st quarter moon, Orion Nebula, early Geminid meteors
