Sustainable Design for Philly at the Academy 11/15

The Academy of Natural Science’s Town Square program provides Philadelphians another chance to speak out about how the city should be run. Hey, if enough folks pay attention to things like this maybe things will start happening in this city again. In the very least, this will all make good fodder for another story about Philly’s failure to pull itself out of decay and stagnation. [ Don't be so cynical, no matter how well-earned the sentiment-- ed.]

Sustainable Visions: Strategies for Philadelphia
This is special, two-part Town Square program featuring the finalist from an international design ideas competition and an Urban Sustainability Forum.
From 4:00-6:00 pm, the five finalist teams from the international ideas competition, Urban Voids: Grounds for Change will present on their submissions. The teams are: Ecosistema Urbano (Madrid), Front Studio (New York), Jill Desimini (Boston), Mathew Langen (Boston), and grand winner Waterwork (the Philadelphia team of Charles Loomis, Chariss Mcafee, Gavin Riggall and Juliet Geldi). (See www.landvisions.org for more information.)
From 6:00-8:30 pm, an Urban Sustainability Forum will look at opportunities and challenges cities face when bridging the gaps between design and implementation. The discussion will explore the value of innovative design as well as the policy implications that would enable those visions to be successfully realized.
The panelists include Paul Brophy (principal with Brophy & Reilly) and Raymond Gastil (Director of City Planning, Manhattan). The Urban Voids finalists will also take part in the evening panel.
