With all the recent hullabaloo about vaccines and autism, the provocative title from the Franklin Institute’s press release frightened me for a moment: Should the Government Make You Do It? Vaccine Mandates and Children
Sounds ominous. I mean, who wants to be mandated to do anything? But they have a smart crowd assembled to take on the discussion. (If you can’t tell, I side with the science and not the panic. Not a PASWA policy statement, just me — Greg)
Moderated by Associate Editor of the Editorial Board of The Philadelphia Inquirer, John Timpane, featured panelists include Arthur L. Caplan, Ph.D, Director of the Center for Bioethics at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine; Paul A. Offit, MD, Chief of Division of Infectious Diseases at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; Eddy Bresnitz, MD, MS, Deputy Commissioner/State Epidemiologist for the State of New Jersey; and Frederic Bertley, Ph.D, Vice President of the Center for Innovation in Science Learning at The Franklin Institute.
These are just the sort of people you want in front of the public to speak in plain, yet passionate, language on the topic. If you have any lingering worries about whether you should vaccinate your children, I’d urge you to attend. If you are dead-set opposed to vaccines, I’d also encourage you to attend.
Wednesday, March 26th at 7:00 PM in Franklin Theater at the Franklin Institute. Tickets are free, but call for reservations: 215.448.1254.
