Happy Birthday, Chuck.
Unfortunately, nobody’s been blogging here about Chuck D’s b-day. There are plenty of events to attend, check the Year of Evolution site for more details. I promise we’ll do better to blog about it and, if the family lets me, report on a few.
It isn’t too late to attend the Penn Museum’s Darwin Day and Evolution Teach-in this coming Sunday. Admission details here.
Charles Robert Darwin, the world-renowned author of On the Origin of Species and the originator of the modern theory of evolution, has his 200th birthday in February, and the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology celebrates it in style, with the third-annual free Darwin Day and Evolution Teach In on Sunday, February 15, 2009, from 1 to 4 p.m.
A full afternoon of free Darwin events takes place with a program that features short ”teach in” talks in the galleries, a scavenger hunt, evolutionary twister, birthday cake, and more. Darwin himself is also sure to make an appearance! Visitors can also tour Penn Museum’s evolution exhibit, Surviving: The Body of Evidence. Developed with a major grant from the National Science Foundation, Surviving takes the visitor on a journey of self discovery to find out how the process of evolution and its outcomes have had a profound impact on daily life for humans today. Co-curator Janet Monge will give tours at 1:30 and 3 p.m. The Academy of Natural Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the Wagner Free Institute of Science, and the Philadelphia Zoo will also bring Darwin and evolution-related activities and information to the event. This event is a part of the Year of Evolution, a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin.
