The Nikola Tesla Energy Independence celebrations THIS WEEKEND
Whoa, how did I miss this.
Today marks the 153 birthday of everyone’s favorite real-life mad — meant with all due respect — genius Nikola Tesla. The Nikola Tesla Inventor’s Club is hosting a three-day celebration of the man, his work, and its modern relevance.
Here’s the schedule ripped straight from their site:

This weekend in science (and The Blob)
It just occurs to me that a couple of links I added this week have to do with weekend events. It ALSO occurs to me that it will be a glorious weekend (albeit with a slight chance of rain).
In short, take the kids and go outside…and when IF it rains, you can go see [...]
Race Car Day at the Franklin Institute
[ July 29, 2009; 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. ] Learn the science of endlessly turning left (…kidding!) Wednesday July 29th at the Franklin Institute. If you are into racing, have a racing-obsessed kid or simply prefer to spend your lunch break looking for crash videos on YouTube, this might be the event for you.
Bonus, your kid could win the opportunity to wave [...]
An Introduction to Transition Communities at The Academy of Natural Science’s Town Square
[ July 9, 2009; 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. ] Come on feel the noise
Girls rock your boys
We’ll get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild.
Perhaps I get a different idea when I hear the words “Quiet Riot,” but the Transition Movement is gaining steam (or wind or solar, preferably) and this event, while not necessarily “rocking,” should be very interesting.
The Academy’s under appreciated [...]
Science Saturday at the Fairmount Water Works
[ July 11, 2009; 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. July 25, 2009; 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. ] It is easy to forget that, under all the concrete and asphalt, that Philly is a essentially a river town, built at the confluence of two great rivers. And even though many of our creeks were long-since diverted to sewers or buried to become future rowhome-sinkers, there is much natural beauty to be seen and [...]
Earth Fair this Weekend at The Franklin Institute (7/11-12) 10AM to 3PM
[ July 11, 2009 to July 12, 2009. ] Now, if this weekend is anything like the last, I cannot foresee that anyone would want to spend time indoors at all. But it is July in Philadelphia and the safe bet (without actually bothering to look up the forecast) is that it will be hot and muggy. (Especially) If so, then what a better [...]
Avery Brooks and Samuel Delany at the Franklin Institute 7/31 7PM
[ July 31, 2009; 7:00 pm; ] I’ll admit that every post here is meant to stoke your inner nerd. This, however, registers a Nerd Alert factor of at least 7.5.
Star Trek’s Avery Brooks and woefully under appreciated science fiction author Samuel Delany team up to talk about race, science and, of course, Star Trek.
An Evening with Star Trek’s Avery Brooks [...]
