Life-Size Operation Game at the Franklin Institute 1/30 10:30 am

[ January 30, 2010; 10:30 am; ] In what is possibly the weirdest conceivable (yet still tasteful, an important caveat) tie-in to Body Worlds 2, the Franklin Institute is creating a life-size Ben Franklin version of the Operation Game. Also note that The Franklin is teaming with MakePhilly and Hive76, which is a brilliant combination.

Early registration for the tournament is [...]

Peter Dodson at Science on Tap tonight! 6pm National Mechanics

[ December 14, 2009; 8:00 pm; ] Ack! Science on Tap is tonight. The host, triceratops-enthusiast extraordinaire, Pete Dodson, is one of my favorite people on the planet, but my daughter’s gymnastics lesson is tonight and I’m duty-bound to take her. Please, please go on my behalf. Tonight at National Mechanics.

Science on Tap: Colin Purrington “Embracing Darwin” November 9, 6pm

[ November 9, 2009; 6:00 pm; ] I have to admit, Colin Purrington, Swarthmore prof and evolution activist, is one of my heroes. Check out his site, you’ll love it: http://www.swarthmore.edu/NatSci/cpurrin1/evolk12/evoops.htm

I really hope to make this particular cafe, even though I’ve seen him speak a bunch of times.

“Embracing Darwin”
Charles Darwin turned 200 in February, and his book On the Origin [...]

Bonus Science on Tap: November 2 at National Mechanics

[ November 2, 2009; 6:00 pm; ] The Chemical Heritage is trying to sneak in a “bonus” science cafe (which I hope doesn’t detract from Colin Purrington’s event on the ninth) with what promises to be a cool change of pace, a dramatic presentation by the Flashpoint Theater Company’s presentation of Boom.

Science on Tap: “No Family History: Investigating What’s Behind the Breast Cancer Epidemic” National Mechanics 10/12 6PM

It is the Chemical Heritage Foundation‘s turn again at picking a speaker for Science on Tap.
Appropriately enough for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they chose Sabrina McCormick, a fellow at the American Academy for the Advancement of the Sciences, to talk about environmental causes of breast cancer.

“No Family History: Investigating What’s Behind the Breast [...]
